SB19 performs ASEAN 2026 Song

SB19 Lend Their Voice To The Official ASEAN 2026 Song

Named Philippine tourism ambassadors in July, the group continues its role in representing the country through music.

SB19 continue to extend their influence beyond the stage, lending their voices to “Together In Motion,” the official song for the Philippines’ ASEAN 2026 chairship.

Released by the Department of Tourism, the song features Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin delivering a message of unity through its central hook, “Together, one heart, one dream, one ocean.” Composed by Anya Lagman and arranged by Jimmy Antiporda and Louie Ocampo, the anthem echoes the Philippines’ ASEAN 2026 theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together.”

As this year’s ASEAN chair, the Philippines will host the 49th ASEAN Summit on November 16 to 18, 2026.

The music video shows SB19 recording and performing the song alongside scenes of the country’s destinations and culture. The project follows the boy group’s appointment as Philippine tourism ambassadors in July, adding to their growing role beyond their work as recording artists.

“Together In Motion” comes amid a year of increased visibility for SB19 in spaces outside the music industry. On September 28, 2026, the Philippine Senate recognized the boy group for their historic Lollapalooza 2026 performance and contributions to the country’s creative industry.

Together with their label, 1Z Entertainment, SB19 have also worked with Senator Bam Aquino on Senate Bill No. 2517 or the proposed Philippine Agency for the Creative Economy (PACE) Act. The measure aims to strengthen support for creatives, including assistance with visas, travel, logistics, and international participation.

In related news, SB19 took home three awards at the 2026 Filipino Music Awards: People’s Choice – Artist, People’s Choice – Song for “VISA” as well as Concert of the Year for Wakas at Simula: The Trilogy Concert Finale.

Singapore caught Eala Mania

Eala Mania hits Singapore as Filipino star draws huge crowd

Filipino star set to begin her campaign against Tatiana Prozorova in the round of 16

Alex Eala’s popularity continues to soar. Every city the Filipino tennis star visits seems to embrace her with an even bigger following, and Singapore has been no exception. After drawing huge crowds in Washington, Toronto, and New York, Eala has now brought “Eala Mania” to Singapore.

A throng of fans turned up for a public Q&A session featuring Eala on Wednesday, just a day before she was set to begin her campaign at the Singapore Tennis Open against Tatiana Prozorova in the round of 16.

Fans of all ages began arriving at Gate 6 of the National Stadium hours before the match schedule.

Eala was warmly cheered by the crowd as she chatted with the host about a variety of topics, from her favorite food and music to her experiences on tour. She also took time to read messages from her fans.

Among those in attendance were supporters who had previously tried but failed to see Eala play live, as well as fans who arrived wearing Eala’s blue US Open kit.

An hour after the Q&A session, Eala headed to Court 1 for practice. The 30-minute workout was open to the public, giving fans who stayed behind an up-close look at how the world No. 18 was preparing for her clash with Prozorova.

Eala was joined on court by Sandro Viaene, her coach from the Rafa Nadal Academy.

After completing her practice session, Eala once again made time for her supporters. Fans waited patiently with caps, tennis balls, and other merchandise in hand, hoping to get an autograph from the Filipino star.

When asked whether they were ready for “Eala Mania” — the growing phenomenon surrounding the Filipina tennis star — Singapore Tennis Open co-tournament directors Laura Ceccarelli and Yazed Osman could only laugh.

“I don’t think we can ever be ready,” Ceccarelli said. “It’s a surprise every day. You hear more and more.”

Growing support

Osman welcomed the growing support from the Filipino community, emphasizing the connection between athletes and fans.

“We welcome the Filipino community to support their star player,” Osman said. “This is something we create not only for the Singapore community, but for having that connection between athletes and fans.”

The occasion was made even more special by Eala’s history with Singapore, which dates back nearly a decade.

In 2016 and 2017, Eala competed in the WTA Future Stars event in Singapore, where she even received a special award.

“Eala came here when she was very young,” Osman said.

“She even won a special award — the Li Na Award, for the most inspirational player of the future,” Ceccarelli added.

Carol Banawa was awarded Most Outstanding Migrant at the 2026 Global Migrant Award

213 September 2026

United States-based Filipino singer and nurse Carol Banawa was honored with the Most Outstanding Migrant Award at the 2026 Global Migrant Award Heritage People’s Ball in the United States.

Banawa expressed her gratitude for the accolade through her Instagram page on Monday, Sept. 21. She accepted the recognition during the ceremony held last Saturday, Sept. 19.

“I am deeply humbled and incredibly honored to be one of the recipients of the Most Outstanding Migrant Award. To be recognized among so many inspiring individuals is a blessing I will forever cherish,” said the “Iingatan Ka” singer.

Banawa recalled leaving her showbiz career in the Philippines to move to the US in the early 2000s, admitting she initially had doubts. She also looked back at her journey in the healthcare and regarded her sacrifices as what brought her to where she is now.

“Starting over in a new country was not easy. There were moments of uncertainty, sacrifice, and countless long days, but I believed that every new beginning could lead to a greater purpose,” she wrote.

The singer thanked her family including her husband, Ryan; their children Chelsea, River, and Bella, whom she described as her “greatest inspiration”; and her older sister, Cherry, whom she credited for her constant support. Banawa also dedicated the award to her late parents and brother.

"As a proud Filipino, I accept this award on behalf of every migrant who has left home in search of a better future. We Filipinos carry with us the values we learned from home — humility, perseverance, faith, compassion, resilience, and hard work. Wherever life takes us, we bring those values with us and continue to serve, love, and make a difference,” she continued.

So, to anyone who is afraid to begin again, who thinks it is too late to change, or who has been told that their dreams are impossible: Never let anyone define your limits,” she said. “I stand here today as a reminder that it is never too late to begin again. With God’s grace, the love of family, and the courage to keep moving forward, anything is possible.”

Banawa earned her nursing degree in the US in 2020, then her master’s degree in 2025. /edv

September 17, 2026

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos are finally getting well-deserved recognition on the global stage, says Liza Soberano.

Philstar.com exclusively spoke to the actress during the promotional rounds for her latest film "Forgotten Island," a DreamWorks Animation movie inspired by Filipino culture, mythology, and folklore.

Majority of the project's cast and crew is of Filipino descent. Liza leads the voice cast alongside fellow Filipino-American H.E.R., and together even contribute a song on the official soundtrack.

The movie follows best friends Raissa and Jo (Liza and H.E.R., respectively) as they are stranded on the titular island of Nakali, where the only way home may mean losing a lifetime of memories and emotions.

Liza shared her thoughts on what it means to be part of the Filipino community being recognized even more in the global entertainment scene.

The actress began by acknowledging how surreal and honored she feels being part of the project itself.

"I feel like this is kind of a movement," Liza continued. "There's so many Filipinos all over the world that are kind of having a moment in film, music, and food space."

She noted how exciting it was to see people form other cultures taking interest or having curiosity for Philippine culture and finding the beauty in it.

"Us, Filipinos, we love to travel the world and experience other people's cultures so it's nice that we're finally also getting that [kind of] reactions to our culture," Liza added.

"Forgotten Island" also features the voices of Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy, Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto, Filipino-American actress Amielynn Abellera, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, and Ronny Chieng.

Directed by Joel Crawford and Filipino-American Januel Mercado, it hits Philippine cinemas this September 23.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the 32-member class on Thursday during a news conference at Funko Hollywood on Hollywood Boulevard.

Scherzinger and Jo Koy were recognized in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category alongside Italian ballet star Roberto Bolle.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame, established in 1960, honors artists who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry. Stretching along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, it features more than 2,800 terrazzo-and-brass stars recognizing achievements in motion pictures, television, recording, radio, live theatre/live performance and sports entertainment.

Honorees are chosen each year by the Walk of Fame Selection Committee from hundreds of nominations submitted by fans, studios, record labels and others in the entertainment industry. The selections are then ratified by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

“The Walk of Fame Selection Committee is proud to welcome the Class of 2027 to one of the most enduring symbols of achievement in entertainment,” selection committee chairman Peter Roth said in a statement. “These extraordinary individuals have each made a lasting impact on audiences around the world through their talent, creativity and dedication to their craft.”

Jo Koy, who has long celebrated his Filipino heritage in his stand-up comedy, has become one of the world’s top-grossing comedians. His routines frequently draw on his experiences growing up with a Filipino mother and have helped bring Filipino culture to mainstream audiences worldwide.

The Class of 2027 also includes actors Pedro Pascal, Lisa Kudrow, Idris Elba, Kate Hudson and Adam Scott; recording artists Karol G, Sia, Linkin Park and Lil Wayne; and former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson, who will be honored in the Sports Entertainment category.

Bretman Rock, Niana Guerrero, Valkyrae make 2nd 'Time100 Creators' list

Bretman Rock, Niana Guerrero, Valkyrae make 2nd 'Time100 Creators' list

18 July 2026

MANILA, Philippines — Three individuals of Filipino descent landed on the "2026 TIME100 Creators" list by Time magazine, a compilation of 100 content creators deemed to have "the most influential digital voices."

All three representatives — Niana Guerrero, Bretman Rock and Rachel Hofstetter (better known as Valkyrae) — were included in the list's Titans category.

Niana, the only one of the three based in the Philippines, is the most-followed Filipino on TikTok at nearly 47 million followers and her inclusion featured a write-up by Leslie Horn Peterson.

The writer shared how Niana went viral in 2017 as a 12-year-old dancing to "Despacito" and now has collaborated with international artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, Lisa of Blackpink and Katseye led by Filipina Sophia Laforteza.

United States-based Bretman and Valkyrae, who is of Filipino and German descent, both had their write-ups done by Kara Nesvig.

Nesvig noted how Bretman's Instagram and TikTok feeds are filled with beauty content around the world, as well as nature scenes from his Hawaiian home.

Bretman made the shift from Vine to YouTube by keeping in touch with short- and long-form content and now the more down-to-earth side of his life.

"With hilarious videos about naming baby peacocks or applying false lashes to his chickens so they look more like him — not to mention the farmland video that won him the 2025 TikTok Video of the Year Award— Bretman's content is a reminder of how living in harmony with nature can make life more beautiful," Nesvig wrote.

Gaming icon Valkyrae, meanwhile, was praised for being a standout Twitch streamer in a male-dominated space, picking up millions of views in the last decade.

Valkyrae's influence has extended beyond gaming with her Hihi Studios media company, "Wine About It" podcast, music video appearances, and voice roles in animation.

Joining the three in the Titans category were Joe Rogan, IShowSpeed, Druski, Alex Cooper, Alan Chikin Chow, Markiplier, Mark Rober, Subway Takes' Kareem Rahma, Quenlin Blackwell, and cover star Alix Earle — many of whom were on last year's inaugural list.

Notable names in other categories were Mark Phillips, Whitney Leavitt, Lex Fridman and "Backrooms" director Kane Parsons.

Heart Evangelista shines at Max Mara Shanghai celebration

Heart Evangelista shines at Max Mara Shanghai celebration

GMA Lifestyle
10 July 2026

Heart Evangelista is truly living up to her reputation as a global fashion and style icon as she makes a splash at a fashion event in Asia before making her way to France for Paris Fashion Week.

While Heart is currently attending multiple fashion shows in France for Paris Fashion Week, she was already the star of the show at the Max Mara 75th anniversary celebrations held in Shanghai. In the Reel, Heart lauded Max Mara's 75-year history, noting that “they have never failed with everything that they have done.”

“It's such a vibe. It's celebrating 75 years of Max Mara…they have never failed with everything that they have done,” she said. “You can see with their archival pieces how they've touched culture. They have continued to evolve, stay classic but adapt to the times.”

Heart further emphasized her point by writing in the caption: “A collection inspired by the future, presented in a city that never stops evolving.”

Heart's presence at the 25th Max Mara anniversary celebrations was just a prelude to her actually meeting the label's current fashion director and coordinator. She recently posted multiple photos of her with designer Laura Lusuardi, writing in the caption to the post that meeting Laura Lusuardi was a lovely moment.

Aside from Laura Lusuardi, Heart has met multiple prominent names in fashion over several years. Back in February, Heart was personally invited by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya of Thailand to attend the princess' fashion show.

Heart was also invited to the KRAAM International Symposium 2025: Hands Across Culture event in November last year. The KRAAM International Symposium is a project by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya of Thailand to connect Thai weavers with international experts to advance traditional Kraam or indigo fabric products.

Another designer Heart frequently works with is Italian designer Giambattista Valli, who she has been working with as far back as 2023. Back then, she posted a couple of photos of her with him and wrote in the caption that there is “something exciting happening soon”. She also wrote that she had a “sweet afternoon” with the then 57-year-old ready-to-wear and haute couture designer.

Filipinos at the American Music Awards 2026

Filipino pride soars at American Music Awards with Apl.de.ap, Katseye’s Sophia

Inquirer.net
30 May 2026

A song released more than 15 years ago and a girl group representing the future of global pop became two of the biggest vehicles for Filipino pride at the 2026 American Music Awards.

Turning the spotlight on Filipino talent at one of music’s biggest stages held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, this year’s ceremony saw Filipino American rapper Apl.de.ap and global girl group Katseye, home to Filipina member Sophia Laforteza, emerge among the night’s standout winners.

Comeback story

For Apl.de.ap, the moment came courtesy of an unlikely comeback story.

The Black Eyed Peas’ 2010 club anthem “Rock That Body” has experienced a second life online over the past year, becoming the soundtrack to a viral dance trend that introduced the track to a younger generation.

Its renewed popularity ultimately translated into awards recognition, with the group taking home the AMA for Best Throwback Song.

As the Black Eyed Peas reunited onstage to accept the honor, Apl.de.ap made sure to share the celebration with fans, sending a special shout-out to Filipinos watching around the world.

‘Mabuhay ang Filipino’

“Thank you to all the fans around the world who voted for this song, ‘Rock That Body.’ Maraming salamat, mahal ko kayo. Mabuhay ang Filipino!” he said during his acceptance speech.

Big wins for Katseye

While a veteran artist was celebrating a career-spanning achievement, one of pop music’s newest acts was busy collecting trophies of its own.

Katseye enjoyed a breakthrough night at the ceremony, winning New Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Pop Artist and Best Music Video for “Gnarly.”

The group also delivered a high-energy performance of “Pinky Up.”

During an acceptance speech, the Filipina idol took a moment to acknowledge the artists who helped pave the way for globally minded groups like Katseye.

“We want to give a special shout-out to BTS tonight for inspiring us to represent our culture at a global scale,” she said, closing her speech with “Maraming, maraming salamat!”

The celebration of cultural identity remained a recurring theme throughout the night. Fellow member Lara Raj reflected on Katseye’s long-standing goal of embracing the diverse backgrounds of its members.

“We’ve always been on a mission to celebrate diversity and represent our people and our cultures,” she said.

The wins placed Katseye among the ceremony’s top victors, tying with several artists, including BTS, for the most awards won during the evening.

The K-pop supergroup, making its first AMA appearance in four years, earned Artist of the Year, Best Male K-Pop Artist and Song of the Summer for “Swim.”

Aside from Apl.d.ap and Laforteza, Nicole Scherzinger, in her red latex outfit, also made an appearance with her Pussycat Dolls members Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt, singing their hit song, “Don’t Cha.”

Manny Pacquiao was inducted into the prestigious International Boxing Hall of Fame earlier today in New York, USA.

Pacquiao, the lone eight-division champion in history, joined fellow Filipinos Pancho Villa, Gabriel "Flash" Elorde, and promoter Lope Sarreal.

"From the streets of General Santos, to the bright light of Las Vegas, to tonight at the International Boxing Hall of Fame. No shoes, no food, no chance, just a dream in my heart," Pacquiao wrote on his official Facebook page.

"I never imagined this moment, but by God’s grace, here we are. This is not just about boxing. It’s about faith. Family. Sacrifice. Purpose. It’s about every Filipino and every fan who believed in me, even when the doubters didn’t."

"Today, on February 21, the Crystal Bears of the Generation 14plus Youth Jury and Prizes of the Generation International Jury, endowed by the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Civic Education), have been presented in Generation 14plus," Berlinale announced on its official social media pages Saturday (Manila time).

The Generation 14plus Youth Jury members — Nour Ibrahim, Zeynep Atay, Tyler Kurokhtin, Jil Baalmann and Rohan Yadav — selected "Sunshine" for the award.

Generation 14plus is a section of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) that focuses on films for audiences aged 14 and older. It showcases stories that explore themes relevant to teenagers and young adults, often addressing coming-of-age narratives, social issues and personal struggles.

On its website, the jury praised "Sunshine" for its "sensitive view on its modern and socially critical topic and its strong message. It touched us not only through the acting performances, but also with its dark, yet hopeful and empowering atmosphere, which the filmmakers created with their way of storytelling."

"It raises our awareness by confronting us with the reality of the social and political problems it addresses, which unfortunately still exist today. The film's balance of different moral perspectives and impressive stylistic elements creates an immersive reality that feels authentic and deeply moving," the jury continued.

"Nothing about it feels exaggerated or distant — it draws us in and enables us to experience the characters' inner conflicts in an inspiring way that stays with us long after we've finished watching. Whether or not viewers can directly identify with the issues it tackles, we believe this film will leave a lasting impact," they added.

"Sunshine" follows a young gymnast who discovers she is pregnant the week of the national tryouts. The film premiered on Sept. 13, 2024, at the Toronto International Film Festival and later screened at the 2025 Berlinale as part of the Generation 14plus section.

The film had a sold-out premiere at Berlinale.

"Director Antoinette Jadaone, along with actor Elijah Canlas and the team of 'Sunshine,' attended the film's packed screening at a 1,000-seat theater! They also held an engaging Q&A after more than a minute of applause at the end of the film. 'Sunshine' is competing at this year's Berlinale under the Generation 14 category!" Project 8 Projects shared on social media.

On Feb. 13, Racal attended the opening ceremony and the screening of "Das Licht," wearing a lime green chiffon gown designed by Jot Losa.

In addition to Racal, "Sunshine" stars Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat, Jennica Garcia, Annika Co and Meryll Soriano.

Dia Mate of the Philippines is Reina Hispanoamericana 2025!

Dia reigned victorious during the pageant’s coronation night held in Bolivia on Monday (Philippine time).

For the finals, the Philippine bet flexed her winning glow in a sultry gold gown designed by Rian Fernandez.

During the Q&A portion, Dia was asked: “What values do you think are the most important to our society, and why do you think this is important?”

She answered: “I think the most important value that we should have is kindness. In my experience here in Bolivia, Latinas have shown me so much kindness and so much love even though racially I am not Latino.”

“And the most beautiful thing I've noticed is that even though we don't speak the same language, we share the same culture, same heart, and same faith in God, and I hope this shows everybody that if we use kindness we can show that we are all the same and can create a better world and a better society for us all.”

Aside from the major crown, Dia also took home the Best in National Costume award. She donned an Ehrran Montoya dress inspired by the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.

Ahead, we list down five names you absolutely need to have on your radar.

5 Filipino K-Pop Idols You Need to Know

1. Chanty Videla of Lapillus

Chanty Videla made headlines in 2022 when she was announced as a member of MLD Entertainment's Lapillus. Under the same management as the established girl group Momoland, the group has released the singles Hit Ya! and Gratata.

Chanty began her career in show business as a Star Magic artist. She became close to fellow talent Charlie Dizon, who initially had plans to pursue K-pop as well. Back home in the Philippines, Chanty is signed with GMA's Sparkle Artist Management Center, and is a frequent face in the network's variety shows.

2. Sophia Laforteza of KATSEYE

The daughter of theater star Carla Guevara Laforteza, Sophia Laforteza has been performing her whole life. This passion came to fruition when she signed up to be part of the idol survival show The Debut: Dream Academy. The Filipina edged out dozens of co-trainees and came in first place, becoming the eventual leader of the multi-national girl group KATSEYE.

One has most probably heard KATSEYE's hit song Touch, which had an accompanying dance that became a viral TikTok trend. The sextet, composed of girls from varying backgrounds and nationalities, is partially handled by Korean entertainment company HYBE.

3. Elisia Parmisano of UNIS

At only 14 years old, Elisia Parmisano became victorious on the idol survival show Universe Ticket, granting her a spot in the group UNIS. Prior to joining the series, she was training under Star Magic and already played a guest role in teleserye Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit. Her stint as a child actor led her to meet Asia's Songbird, Regine Velasquez, who congratulated her on her K-pop debut.

4. Gehlee Dangca of UNIS

Gehlee Dangca is another Filipina who debuted in UNIS. With experience competing in beauty pageants, the 16-year-old proved her mettle on Universe Ticket and became the visual and sub-vocalist of their group. She recalled that when she was 12, she and her mom visited Madame Tussauds and were captivated by the lifelike wax figures.

"There was a wax likeness of Liza Minnelli who I later on I got to meet in my own life. So she’s there posing in her tux and pixie hair cut. My mother and I were both looking at it and she said, 'Anak, you’ll never know. One day, that could be you,'" she recounted. "So this moment today, is a manifestation of what happened 40 or so years ago."

Meanwhile, Anne unveiled her wax figure for Madame Tussauds Hong Kong in November.

He went on: "I was just dreaming. It was really impossible to think back then. And that moment when Carson Daly called my name, parang nag-break down ako because it's like a flashback of every rejection, every redirection na oh ito pala 'yun... Now it was like a culmination of ito pala 'yun, thank you Lord."

Sofronio was a former finalist of Tawag Ng Tanghalan of It's Showtime.
