Another Filipino athlete is, quite literally and figuratively, making waves on the international stage!
Showcasing the Philippines’ strong connection to the sea, Ateneo de Manila University Grade 10 student Vito Miguel Tinio secured a silver medal at the recently concluded International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) World Finals.
Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious and competitive jet ski championships in the world, the IJSBA World Finals held its 45th annual personal watercraft championship from October 3 to 11, 2026, at Red Rock Waterside in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Despite competing in Lake Havasu for the first time, Vito delivered an impressive performance, earning silver in the Junior 1100 race and securing a second-place finish in the category, making him the world's No. 2 competitor. He also claimed gold in the Junior Slalom Championship 2026.
Vito was joined on the podium by fellow members of the Philippine jet ski team, who also brought home medals in their respective categories.
Vito Miguel Tinio developed an interest in jet skiing at an early age, prompting him to pursue the sport more seriously at just 12 years old. He began training under coach BJ Ang of Networx Jetsports, laying the foundation for his journey as a competitive jet ski racer.
After only a year of training, Vito made his international debut at 13. Today, his jet skis are tuned and prepared by Thailand-based Attapon “Oil” Kunss and Jumbo Tuner of 777 Performance, helping him refine his performance on the racecourse.
Vito determination has since translated into notable achievements on the international stage. After placing fourth at the Waterjet World Grand Prix #1 (WGP#1) Waterjet World Cup in 2024, the young Filipino racer returned to the water with renewed determination.
In 2025, the then 14-year-old athlete clinched the championship title in the Junior 13–15 Years Old Runabout 1100 Stock category at Round 4 of the Toyota 2W-Waterjet Pro Tour in Phayao, Thailand. He also secured second place in the overall Thailand championship standings.
Held from August 15 to 17, 2025, the competition saw Vito outperform nine other riders from Thailand and Laos. He credited his improved performance to his Thai tuner, Attapon “Oil” of 777 Performance, whose expertise helped prepare his jet ski for the competition.
And with his growing list of achievements at such a young age, Vito Miguel Tinio is only getting started, setting the stage for an even more promising career in the international jet ski racing scene.
