Pinoy technopreneur makes waves in global AI innovation

Filipino technopreneur Diogo Almeida makes waves in global AI with Jev

New AI technology redefining software decision-making

A FILIPINO technopreneur is making his mark in Silicon Valley with an artificial intelligence (AI) innovation that is attracting major investors and gaining attention across the global technology industry.

Diogo Almeida, the Filipino-Portuguese co-founder and CEO of TypeSafe AI, is behind Jev, a new AI model designed to take a different approach from conventional chatbots.

It treats decision-making as a core AI capability, providing structured answers and confidence estimates that software applications can use directly in their own logic.

Jev is designed to return structured outputs such as classifications, rankings, scores, choices and probabilities. These capabilities could make it useful for software applications that need to process large volumes of information and make routine decisions quickly.

Rather than attempting to replace general-purpose AI models, Jev reflects a broader evolution in AI where machines can generate not only more sophisticated language, but also useful, measurable decisions within the software systems businesses depend on.

The San Francisco-based startup made headlines in October after Bloomberg reported that it had raised approximately $870 million in a funding round led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia Capital, at a reported valuation of $7.5 billion.

The funding came just weeks after Jev's launch, underscoring the considerable investor interest surrounding the emerging technology.

Jev has also drawn coverage from international publications, including The Wall Street Journal and TechCrunch, as developers and technology companies explore alternatives to relying exclusively on large language models or LLMs for AI-powered applications.

While its early momentum is notable, Jev remains a new entrant in a market where established AI providers continue to improve their models and introduce competing capabilities.
