MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Global Explorers (PGE), a Filipino nonprofit travel organization, has won the Societal Development Award at A World for Travel (AWFT) 2026 in Paris, France, for its contributions to education, environmental protection and community development.

PGE Chairman Dr. Riza Rasco accepted the award on behalf of the organization during the AWFT Influence Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Oct. 29 at La Samaritaine.

The award recognizes initiatives that use tourism to strengthen communities by creating opportunities, developing skills, promoting inclusion and keeping more value within destinations.

Founded in 2019, PGE has 1,700 members and describes itself as the world’s largest national travel club. Its social programs include Lakbay Aral, an educational travel initiative launched in 2023.

Through three activities, Lakbay Aral has brought students from the Upskills Foundation to Baguio, the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila, the Book Museum cum Ethnology Center in Marikina, and workplaces in Bonifacio Global City.

PGE also runs the Gabay Scholarship. Its first scholar, Justin “Jaja” Carangan, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management in August 2026. A partnership with the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Asian Institute of Tourism also provides financial assistance to four students.

“This award belongs to all of us,” Rasco said, crediting the organization’s leaders, volunteers, members, donors and partners for supporting its community initiatives. /dl
