Filipino-Austrian singer Johannes "JJ" Pietsch was crowned the winner of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Pietsch and his operatic ballad "Wasted Love" got a combined score of 436 points - 258 points from the juries and 178 points from the public.

"Wasted Love" was written by Pietsch himself, Teodora "Teya" Špirić, and Thomas Thurner.

"Love is the strongest force in the world, let's spread more love," the singer said after he received the trophy from Nemo, who won for Switzerland in last year's edition.

Pietsch is the second Filipino to represent Austria at the contest, following Vincent Bueno in 2021.

"Complete pride. No more words needed," Bueno told The Manila Times on Instagram on Sunday.

Finishing in runner-up position is Israel's Yuval Raphael and her song, "New Day Will Rise", with 357 points. Estonia's Tommy Cash finished one point behind Raphael, with 356 points.
